Chargeback Alertas Podem ajudar você a parar de Chargebacks. Mas será que valem o seu tempo?

Chargebacks?
- Manual pre-dispute alerts and automatic RDR resolution are different services; a formal chargeback notice requires the dispute response process.
- Verifi gives participating CDRN merchants 72 hours to initiate a refund; use your provider’s actual instructions for each service.
- RDR evaluates eligible Visa pre-disputes automatically using configured rules. It has no universal 72-hour manual review followed by a 48-hour response stage.
- Confirm the billable event, coverage, duplicate handling and applicable price in your provider agreement.
A chargeback alert gives a participating merchant a chance to resolve an eligible complaint before it becomes a formal chargeback.
Manual alerts need timely review and a refund where appropriate. Visa RDR uses automated resolution rules. Neither service is a notice that a chargeback has already been filed.

Basta pesquisar no Google.
Friendly fraud, a customer disputing a legitimate charge instead of requesting a refund, is a large and growing share of fraud-coded disputes: Javelin Strategy & Research puts it at nearly half of all chargebacks experienced by US digital merchants.
And the bill keeps growing: Mastercard projects the global cost of chargebacks rising from $36.9 billion in 2026 to $46.1 billion in 2029 (Mastercard). This article breaks down the actual cost of chargebacks to merchants.
As sad as it may sound, the reality is that chargebacks can happen anytime, and if you don’t know when the dispute or fraud occurred, you cannot mediate them effectively, making it vital to integrate a Chargeback Alert solution.
Pairing alerts with a broader ecommerce fraud prevention strategy closes even more of that gap, and this article has the insights to help you implement the right chargeback alert solution for your business.

What is a chargeback alert?
The cycle starts with the cardholder. When a transaction goes wrong (due to unauthorized billing, duplicate charge, item not received, or item significantly different from the description), the cardholder can file a dispute with the Card Issuer or bank to nullify the transaction.
At that point, the merchant will have to decide whether to accept the chargeback or fight to establish the transaction. If they choose to fight it, they'll have to provide a set of evidence that shows the chargeback is meritless.
Upon receiving the compelling evidence and rebuttal letter from the merchant, the acquirer submits the merchant's documentation to the issuer. And then, the issuer will review the merchant’s representment. If they are compelling enough to legitimize the transaction, the issuer will reverse the funds back to the merchant’s account.
An enrolled merchant can receive a pre-dispute alert for a covered transaction and issuer. Whether the complaint can be resolved before a chargeback depends on matching, service coverage, timing and the action taken.
For a manual alert, check the service name and due time, match it to the original transaction, and determine whether a refund is appropriate. A successful, timely resolution can prevent an eligible chargeback; enrollment or a refund alone does not guarantee prevention of every dispute.
Chargeback alerts and chargeback prevention act at different points in the payment lifecycle. Checkout controls such as 3D Secure, AVS/CVV checks and device fingerprinting assess a purchase before or during payment. Post-purchase prevention can also review an already paid order before fulfillment, giving the merchant a chance to approve, verify or cancel it.
Pre-dispute alerts act later, when a participating issuer reports a cardholder concern and there is still an opportunity to resolve it before a formal chargeback. Resolving the case at this stage is known as chargeback deflection. Once a chargeback is filed, follow the separate dispute response and representment process, compared in chargeback alerts vs representment. Combining these layers reduces gaps between payment, fulfillment and dispute handling.
| Dimensão | Chargeback Alertas | Chargeback Prevenção |
|---|---|---|
| Momento certo | Incêndios após o titular do cartão entrar em contato com o banco, antes que o “ Disputa ” se torne um chargeback | Works at checkout or after payment before fulfillment, depending on the tool |
How much do chargeback alerts cost?
The cost of chargeback alerts to merchants differs by provider, billing trigger, and volume. Neither Visa nor Mastercard publishes a merchant rate card, so the per-alert fee is set in your provider contract. Ask for the billable event and every fee in writing; our Ethoca alerts cost guide lists the billing terms to request and models when an alert beats the chargeback path.
That said, the chargeback alert solution puts merchants in the driver's seat of chargeback mediation instead of every chargeback incident taking them unawares. If your chargeback ratio is high [i.e. 100 or more chargebacks and a ratio above 1.5% in a single month], you can land in Mastercard's excessive chargeback monitoring program, which charges escalating flat monthly assessments rather than a per-chargeback fee: $1,000 a month at first, climbing to $5,000 a month by months four through six if the ratio isn't fixed.
That's on top of a typical chargeback fee of $15-$30 per chargeback, and all the other associated costs.
Javelin Strategy & Research puts the combined real cost to merchants and issuers at roughly $1.50 for every $1 disputed once fees, lost goods, and internal overhead are counted, so preventing one with an alert is often the cheaper trade. Do the math for your own store: multiply your monthly alert volume by the per-alert fee, then compare it to what those same disputes would cost as chargebacks (the fee above, plus the refunded goods, plus any monitoring-program penalty).
For most merchants near or above the 1.5% threshold, alerts pay for themselves well before you count the hours saved on manual dispute review, and PYMNTS Intelligence has found that automating dispute management can cut the time merchants spend on it by up to 84%.
|---|---|
| Rede cobertura | Confirms participating issuers, enrolled merchant accounts and network services; CDRN and Ethoca are brand-agnostic, while RDR is Visa-only |
| Janela de resposta | Sets the deadline for the required pre-dispute action; a filed chargeback has a separate evidence deadline |
A successful pre-dispute resolution can stop the covered complaint from becoming a chargeback. Confirm the resolved status through your provider and preserve the refund or credit reference; do not treat an attempted refund as a confirmed outcome.
How a chargeback alert works
Alert services match covered issuer complaints to enrolled merchant transactions. For a manual alert, review the complaint and existing refund status, then follow the provider’s resolution instructions. If a formal chargeback is already open, use the case’s accept-or-challenge process and due date.
Chargeback Visão geral das redes de alerta
| Rede | Marca do cartão | Como funciona | Janela de resposta |
|---|---|---|---|
| CDRN (Verifi) | Visa and non-Visa, subject to participation | Lojista analisa o alerta e decide se deve reembolsar | 72 Horas |
| RDR | Visto | Decisão de reembolso totalmente automatizada e baseada em regras, sem revisão manual | Real-time automated decision; if unresolved, the case can enter the standard chargeback process |
Verifi distinguishes CDRN’s merchant-initiated decisioning from RDR’s automated Visa resolution. RDR applies the configured decision rules; a case that is not accepted can continue into the standard chargeback process. That does not create a universal manual fallback window.
For covered CDRN cases, Verifi describes a 72-hour window for a merchant-initiated credit. Check the alert’s actual due time and your provider’s billing trigger. Keep the transaction ID, alert ID, refund reference and final status together so the team can confirm what was resolved.
E fica ainda melhor.
One practical note: alerts only work if the network can match the dispute to your transaction data. The most common reason a merchant misses an alert isn’t the network, it’s a mismatched billing descriptor between what appears on the cardholder’s statement and what’s registered with the payment processor.
That gap is bigger than it sounds: in Ethoca’s 2024 Digital Banking Trends survey, 79% of consumers said they’ve reported an unrecognized transaction to their bank, and a confusing statement descriptor is one of the most common reasons a cardholder doesn’t recognize a legitimate charge in the first place.
Keeping that descriptor consistent and up to date is one of the simplest ways to improve match rates before adding any other prevention layer.
Assign an owner to each alert response
Start with the original payment, rather than the alert alone. Match the merchant account, transaction identifier, currency and amount. Check completed and pending refunds, replacements and fulfillment before requesting another action. An existing refund must be reconciled with the alert so a second team does not refund the same payment again.
Give one person or automated workflow responsibility for the required response and deadline. After acting, record the processor result and reconcile it with the provider’s case status. A submitted refund request is different from a completed refund, and an alert marked resolved is different from proof that every possible dispute has been prevented. The Chargeflow Alerts documentation describes merchant-managed and Chargeflow-managed handling models; confirm which applies to your account.
Example: Check the Financial Status Before Refunding
If an order has already been refunded when a manual alert arrives, match the refund amount and reference to the alert and report the status through your provider’s supported process. If RDR has already resolved the case with a credit, reconcile that credit before initiating another refund.
If the case is an open chargeback, follow the provider’s formal dispute instructions rather than assuming a manual alert refund is still available. Record each action against the same order and dispute.
Use the chargeback accounting guide to reconcile credits and fees, and the time-limit guide to distinguish the response clocks.

A pre-dispute alert arrives before an eligible complaint becomes a chargeback. A formal chargeback notification tells you that a dispute has already been filed and normally requires an accept-or-challenge response through your payment provider. Providers may use different labels, so check the case status and instructions rather than the message name alone.
Chargeback Alertas vs. prevenção da “ chargeback ”: qual é a diferença?
Alerts act on an issuer-reported concern before it becomes a formal chargeback. Prevention can act at checkout or after payment before fulfillment, using risk signals and order review to decide the next action. A merchant may use checkout screening, post-purchase approve/verify/cancel decisions and pre-dispute alerts together. Each layer needs its own owner and a record of the action completed.
Usually both, but confirm it for your own traffic. Verifi (CDRN and RDR) is Visa's network and Ethoca is Mastercard's, and Mastercard describes Ethoca as brand-agnostic. Each network reaches only its participating issuers, so connecting only one can leave some disputes with no warning.
The same question comes up for their pre-dispute data services, covered in our Consumer Clarity vs Order Insight guide. Ask your provider which issuers each network covers. Chargeflow Alerts connects both in a single integration rather than requiring two separate signups.
O site chargeback e oAlertas aceitam pagamentos via Stripe, PayPal ou Shopify ?
Sim.
The best fit depends less on the brand name and more on the criteria in the table above: full Visa and Mastercard coverage, honest false-positive/duplicate-alert handling, a workable response window, a pricing model that matches your dispute volume, and an integration that doesn't require someone checking a dashboard every day.
That holds whether you're a general ecommerce store or in a higher-friendly-fraud vertical looking at Visa dispute alerts specifically. For a step-by-step framework, read our guide on how to choose a chargeback alert provider.
