  • Salesforce Commerce Cloud is a set of named products: B2C Premium, B2B Growth Edition, Order Management Growth and Salesforce Payments, with no published prices. Specify the product in each quote.
  • Shopify offers Basic, Grow and Advanced (US dollars, annual billing: $29, $79, $299 per month) and Plus (from $2,300 per month). B2B catalogs are capped at 3 active on the first three and unlimited on Plus.
  • Compare the named B2B and B2C product scope and operating cost. For B2B orders, retain the purchasing company and location, approved terms, completed order and separate payment confirmation; approval does not mean an invoice is paid.
  • Chargeflow processor connections route disputes; ecommerce connections enrich evidence. Shopify enrichment is Available and Salesforce is Coming soon. Confirm each separately.
  • To move from Salesforce Commerce Cloud to Shopify, import products, customers and then historical orders, and store each old order ID and payment reference on the imported order so pre-cutover disputes stay answerable.

Salesforce Commerce Cloud vs Shopify compares a Salesforce-centered enterprise suite with a hosted commerce platform. Salesforce now markets Commerce Cloud as Agentforce Commerce, and B2C Commerce as Agentforce Commerce for B2C. B2C, B2B, order management and payments are sold as separate products. Shopify sells Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus plans.

This is one pairing in our ecommerce platform comparison series. Compare the named product or plan you would actually run. The choice turns on CRM and data architecture, order management, B2B and B2C scope, checkout, implementation ownership and speed of change.

Salesforce Commerce Cloud sits inside a CRM-anchored data model. Shopify keeps commerce in its own operating system. For Chargeflow merchants, the test is simple. How does each one link the order, payment, fulfillment, refund, subscription, consent and support records a dispute needs?

The Core Difference

Salesforce Commerce Cloud is built as part of a broad enterprise customer platform. Shopify is built as a focused commerce operating system with a wide merchant and app ecosystem. Both can serve large organizations, but they organize data, teams, and implementation very differently.

Salesforce Commerce Cloud supports enterprises that want commerce coordinated with Salesforce CRM, service, marketing, data, and order management. Shopify supports organizations that prioritize commerce speed, merchant usability, ecosystem depth, and a standardized platform model.

Where Salesforce Commerce Cloud Fits Best

Salesforce manages the core cloud platform while your team and partners own data architecture, integrations, storefront design, governance, and release coordination. Define edition scope, site and storefront counts, partner responsibilities, and commercial metrics before selection.

Where Shopify Fits Best

Shopify manages core infrastructure and upgrades; your team configures themes, apps, functions, integrations, markets, and workflows. Model app costs, payment choices, transaction fees, theme work, and Plus-only requirements such as direct catalog assignment to company locations at projected scale.

Define B2B and B2C Scope Before Comparing Proposals

Salesforce now presents its portfolio as Agentforce Commerce, formerly Commerce Cloud. It sells B2B Commerce, B2C Commerce and order management as separate offerings. Shopify uses B2B catalogs to control product availability and pricing. Basic, Grow and Advanced allow up to 3 active catalogs assigned through B2B markets. Plus allows unlimited catalogs and direct assignment to company locations.

Request a demonstration for a retail shopper and a business buyer if both are in scope. Record the products, add-ons, and configuration included in each proposal. Keep the buyer’s company or location reference alongside the order and payment identifiers so support can reconstruct the purchase terms.

Compare the payment layer with our payment gateway comparison, and use the compelling evidence guide to plan supporting records.

Keep B2B Approval, Buyer and Payment Records Together

A buyer contact, an approved draft and a paid order answer different questions. On Shopify B2B orders, Order.customer identifies the individual contact, not the purchasing company. Use Order.purchasingEntity to distinguish a consumer order from a PurchasingCompany with its company, contact and location.

  1. Identify the buyer and approved terms. Save the company and location, accepted price, payment terms and approval record used for this order.
  2. Connect the draft to the completed order. With Shopify’s draft-review setting, checkout submits for approval. Review drafts remain incomplete until an order is created or the customer pays the invoice; their prices are locked by default.
  3. Check payment separately from approval. Completing a Shopify draft can create an order with payment pending or payment terms. Connect the actual payment confirmation and fulfillment record before telling support the invoice is paid.

Proposed store check: trace one approved B2B draft through order creation, fulfillment and payment, plus one invoice still awaiting payment. Use the named Salesforce B2B headless flow only where enabled; B2C and external order-management setups need their own record mapping.

Getting an Honest Total-Cost Comparison

Salesforce Commerce Cloud and Shopify price their commerce very differently. Headline prices alone won't tell you which is actually cheaper. List these costs for each:

  • Salesforce Commerce Cloud: custom commerce licensing, implementation, integration, success plans, add-ons, data products, payment services and ongoing enterprise administration.
  • Shopify: the Shopify plan, apps, themes or agency work, payment processing, third-party transaction fees where they apply, POS, markets and operational support.

Build a three-year total-cost model on your own requirements. Test it against at least three scenarios: today, after expected growth, and a downside case. The downside case adds more international orders, support tickets, fraud attempts, refunds or disputes. Include:

  • Hosting, infrastructure, license, and subscription fees tied to the platform.
  • Migration, design, custom development, and everything else implementation touches.
  • Integration middleware alongside apps, extensions, and themes.
  • Transaction-side costs: processing, GMV, cross-border, currency, refund, and dispute fees.
  • Ongoing platform upkeep: security, updates, monitoring, backups, performance, and technical support.
  • The people cost: finance, reconciliation, customer service, fraud review, and chargeback labor.

How Each Platform Supplies Dispute Evidence

The cardholder's bank decides a card dispute, not the ecommerce platform. But the platform shapes how fast you can assemble the order context once evidence is requested. Shopify states that it does not decide chargeback outcomes and that merchants usually have 7 to 21 days to respond.

On either platform, the aim is the same: rebuild the full transaction story without searching across disconnected systems.

How Each Platform Supplies Dispute Evidence table
Evidence LayerSalesforce Commerce CloudShopify

Checkout and consentSalesforce Commerce CloudVerify where the implementation retains checkout details, terms shown at purchase, and any required consent record. Link these to the original order.ShopifyVerify where the implementation retains checkout details, terms shown at purchase, and any required consent record. Link these to the original order.
Payment referenceSalesforce Commerce CloudTrace the Salesforce Commerce Cloud order back through to the processor transaction, authentication outcome, and descriptor, confirming how Salesforce Payments or a connected Adyen setup passes that reference through.ShopifyTie the Shopify order to its processor transaction, authentication result, and descriptor, which Shopify Payments surfaces directly and third-party gateways may report differently.
FulfillmentSalesforce Commerce CloudLink shipment, delivery, or service-completion records, wherever they live across the Salesforce ecosystem, back to the Commerce Cloud order ID.ShopifyAttach Shopify's own fulfillment, tracking, and pickup records, including POS or multi-channel orders, to the order ID.
Refund and serviceSalesforce Commerce CloudMake sure refunds, cancellations, and Service Cloud case notes stay synchronized with the Commerce Cloud order record.ShopifyKeep Shopify's refund and return history aligned with support conversations, whether logged natively or in a connected help desk.

For Salesforce Commerce Cloud, the payment layer matters. Salesforce Payments can provide express checkout, fraud protection and authorization optimization. It is natively integrated with Adyen, and Stripe is also listed. Salesforce does not state on those pages who handles disputes, so your contract and configuration set the final workflow.

For Shopify, Shopify Payments adds order information to a chargeback response automatically. Disputes from third-party providers can follow different processes and timelines.

Settle four things ahead of time. Which system issues the dispute notice? Where does the deadline show up? Who is authorized to submit evidence? Does the outcome data reach finance and analytics?

Skip the generic chargeback win rate when comparing platforms. That number moves with reason code, merchant category, fraud mix, evidence quality, issuer behavior, response deadlines, and how it was calculated in the first place. What actually matters is how reliable and fast the operating workflow is.

Test Five Real Orders Against Salesforce Commerce Cloud and Shopify

Run five anonymized historical orders through both Salesforce Commerce Cloud and Shopify. Include a fraud claim, an item-not-received claim, a product or service complaint, a refund disagreement and, if you sell subscriptions, a recurring-billing case.

  • Track down the processor-side transaction and line it up with its ecommerce order.
  • Rebuild the exact purchase conditions, product page, price, policy, and checkout consent, as they appeared at checkout.
  • Collect any authentication, device, address, or fraud-review signals the processor lets you access.
  • Pull the fulfillment trail: shipping, delivery, pickup, access, returns, cancellations, and refunds.
  • Gather every customer message and support ticket tied to the case.
  • Tally the manual effort involved, the data that was missing, gaps in ownership, and how the result ultimately gets logged.

Compare the two platforms on evidence coverage, identifier quality, and manual effort, then project that effort out to your expected dispute volume.

Which Platform Should You Choose?

Choose Salesforce Commerce Cloud if Salesforce is already central to your customer and operational data. It fits programs that can support enterprise implementation, governance and commercial complexity.

Choose Shopify if most requirements fit the standard platform or mature apps. It fits teams that value faster delivery and plan for platform boundaries and recurring app or plan costs.

Whatever you pick, write the decision down in operational terms:

  • Who owns releases.
  • Where payment and order identifiers live.
  • Which systems hold fulfillment and communication evidence.
  • How refunds stay synchronized.
  • The escalation path for disputes.

Settling these up front keeps the architecture workable after go-live.

Migrating From Salesforce Commerce Cloud to Shopify Without Losing Dispute Evidence

A move from Salesforce Commerce Cloud to Shopify has two jobs. Launch the new store, and keep every past order answerable. Disputes on orders placed before cutover can still arrive after it, so the old order and payment records must stay findable.

On the Salesforce side, administrators import and export site data in Business Manager. On the Shopify side, Shopify says to import products first, then customers, then historical orders. For the wider plan, test and launch steps, use our Shopify Plus migration checklist.

Shopify’s orderCreate mutation covers orders imported from an external system. Its sourceIdentifier field holds the ID of the order placed on the originating platform. Each imported transaction can carry its gateway, authorization code and the gateway receipt. Fill these on every imported order. A dispute response then shows the same order number the cardholder saw.

Rebuild Cartridges as Shopify Apps and Functions

Salesforce B2C Commerce extends a storefront with cartridges. Salesforce defines a cartridge as “a mechanism for packaging and deploying program code and data” that extends business functionality or integrates external systems. These do not move to Shopify. Map each one to a replacement:

  • Public apps: Shopify App Store apps, including apps that contain Shopify Functions, work on any plan.
  • Shopify Functions: Shopify says Functions “allow developers to customize the backend logic of Shopify,” such as discounts, payment options, delivery options and checkout validation.
  • Custom apps with Functions: only stores on a Shopify Plus plan can use custom apps that contain Shopify Function APIs.

Follow This Migration Order to Keep Past Disputes Answerable

  1. List every cartridge and integration. Note what each one does and which order or payment data it writes.
  2. Export site data from Business Manager. Pull the catalog, customers and full order history, including payment references.
  3. Import products, then customers, then orders. Map each old order ID into sourceIdentifier and keep the original order date.
  4. Move saved payment methods. Migrate subscription tokens before the first renewal on Shopify. Shopify notes that PayPal billing agreements cannot be migrated through its service.
  5. Import URL redirects. Redirect old product, policy and help URLs. Shopify only redirects URLs that no longer load a page.
  6. Place test orders. Test successful and failed payments, refunds and fulfillment, as Shopify’s checklist recommends.
  7. Keep the old records reachable. Archive the Salesforce order export and keep your processor connection live, so disputes on pre-cutover orders still route and still have evidence.

If your processor account stays the same after the move, disputes keep arriving at that processor. Keep its Chargeflow connection active through the switch. The same mapping works in reverse. Moving from Shopify to Salesforce Commerce Cloud, carry Shopify order IDs and transaction references into the new order records.

Connecting Shopify to Salesforce CRM

Running Shopify does not mean dropping Salesforce CRM. Salesforce documents two of its own routes for Shopify data:

  • MuleSoft Shopify Connector: an Anypoint connector that exposes Shopify Admin API operations to Mule integration flows. Documented uses include syncing a new customer’s details when they place an order and storing new order data.
  • Data 360 Shopify connector: ingests Shopify customers, orders, products, fulfillments and refunds into Salesforce Data 360. Salesforce labels it beta for batch ingestion and Zero Copy.

Third-party connectors on the Salesforce AppExchange and Shopify App Store also exist. Check each listing for the objects it syncs and how often. For disputes, what matters is a shared ID. Store the Shopify order ID on the CRM case. Support notes and the order then land in the same evidence file.

Choose Salesforce Commerce Cloud when you want commerce and CRM records on one vendor’s platform. Choose Shopify with a connector when you want Shopify for the storefront and Salesforce for customer and service data.

Product Scope and Connection Routes

Chargeflow keeps two kinds of connection separate. A payment-processor connection routes disputes into Chargeflow. An ecommerce connection enriches the evidence with order and customer records. Statuses come from the Chargeflow integration catalog, checked October 4, 2026.

Preguntas frecuentes

What Should a B2B Comparison of Salesforce Commerce Cloud and Shopify Include?

Compare the exact products and plan, buyer access, catalog pricing, purchase terms, and order-management workflow. Ask each implementation team to demonstrate the same business buyer and sample order, then document how support retrieves the agreed terms.

How Do CRM-Linked Commerce and Shopify Checkout Differ?

Salesforce Commerce Cloud and Shopify suit different priorities. Salesforce Commerce Cloud connects commerce with the Salesforce ecosystem. Customer, marketing, service, order and analytics teams can then work from connected data. Shopify offers a managed commerce platform with a standardized checkout, a broad app ecosystem and integrated payments.

Weigh both against your catalog complexity, sales channels, target markets, implementation resources, payment approach, and how each configuration surfaces dispute evidence.

Is Salesforce Commerce Cloud cheaper than Shopify?

Which platform is cheaper comes down to total cost of ownership, not the price on the pricing page. Salesforce publishes no prices for B2C Premium, B2B Growth Edition, Order Management Growth or Salesforce Payments. For Salesforce Commerce Cloud, model custom commerce licensing, implementation, integration, success plans and ongoing enterprise administration.

Shopify plans cost $29 (Basic), $79 (Grow) and $299 (Advanced) per month in US dollars on annual billing. Plus starts at $2,300 per month. For Shopify, model the plan, apps, themes or agency work, payment processing and POS. Add third-party gateway fees of 2%, 1%, 0.6% or 0.2% by plan, plus markets and operational support.

Pull current official proposals and weigh them against your expected transaction mix.

What Is the Difference Between Salesforce B2C Commerce and Shopify?

In a Salesforce vs Shopify storefront decision, the Salesforce product is B2C Commerce or B2B Commerce. Salesforce B2C Commerce, now called Agentforce Commerce for B2C, is a quote-priced enterprise storefront product. You extend it with cartridges and connect it to other Salesforce clouds. Salesforce lists 100 sites, 3,500 price books and full order management with B2C Premium.

Shopify is a hosted commerce platform with published plans from $29 per month, and Plus from $2,300 per month. You extend it with apps and Shopify Functions, and customer and order records live in Shopify admin. Choose Salesforce B2C Commerce when commerce must share one Salesforce data model. Choose Shopify when a standard platform covers most requirements.

How Do You Migrate From Salesforce Commerce Cloud to Shopify?

Export site data from Business Manager, then import products, customers and historical orders into Shopify in that order. Rebuild cartridges as apps or Shopify Functions, import URL redirects and migrate saved payment tokens. Store each old order ID in sourceIdentifier so disputes on pre-migration orders stay answerable.

Does Shopify Integrate With Salesforce CRM?

Yes. Salesforce documents the MuleSoft Shopify Connector for integration flows and a Data 360 Shopify connector, in beta, that ingests customers, orders, products, fulfillments and refunds. Third-party AppExchange and Shopify App Store connectors also exist. Store the Shopify order ID on CRM cases so dispute evidence stays linked.

How Does Chargeflow Connect to Shopify and Salesforce Commerce Cloud?

Chargeflow supports two separate connection types. Processor connections, such as Shopify Payments, Stripe and Adyen, are listed as Available and route disputes into Chargeflow. Ecommerce enrichment adds order and customer records: Shopify is listed as Available, and Salesforce is listed as Coming soon.

These statuses describe integration availability, not dispute results. Results depend on your evidence, the processor and the issuer. A Salesforce Commerce Cloud merchant can connect an available processor today and use the Chargeflow API where it fits. Check the current catalog before implementation.

Wire CRM and Commerce Data Together Before a Dispute Hits

Start from the platform that fits how you serve customers and plan to grow. Then make sure payment, order, fulfillment, subscription, refund and support data all connect. That connective layer is what lets you rebuild and defend a legitimate transaction later.

When you're ready to add a dedicated chargeback layer on top, Chargeflow offers a demo to walk through the fit.
