- Worldpay and Airwallex are compared here by named product: Worldpay's Accept, Protect, Optimize, Embed and Move Money pillars, and Airwallex Payments alongside its multi-currency business accounts and FX.
- Airwallex publishes US online card rates (2.8% + $0.30 domestic, 4.30% + $0.30 international) and FX markups of 0.5% on major currencies and 1% on others. Worldpay's home page shows no rates, so its cost comes from a written proposal.
- Trace capture, refund, fee, settlement batch and payout records separately. Use the worked ledger to explain the bank receipt; confirm the Worldpay/acquirer report and Airwallex account scope.
- Global Payments completed its Worldpay acquisition on January 12, 2026. Treat that as corporate context: it does not by itself confirm product features, account migrations or compatibility.
Worldpay and Airwallex cover overlapping payment acceptance with different product scope: Worldpay organizes its offer around Accept, Protect, Optimize, Embed and Move Money, while Airwallex pairs Airwallex Payments with multi-currency business accounts and foreign exchange. The practical comparison is of the named products and settlement setup you would actually contract for.
Worldpay vs Airwallex: The Quick Answer
Compare Worldpay's acquiring and dispute products with Airwallex's payment acceptance, account and FX products for the same sale. Corporate ownership, account terms and product availability are three separate questions: ownership is public, while terms and availability come from a written proposal for your country and configuration.

Compare Named Worldpay and Airwallex Products
Worldpay and Airwallex are both a payment service provider for online acceptance, but their product pages group the offer differently. Match your workflow to the named product, not to the company.
Worldpay's Product Pillars
The Worldpay home page names five pillars: Accept (checkouts across channels), Protect (fraud screening and authentication), Optimize (tools such as intelligent routing), Embed (fund management for platforms) and Move Money (payouts and cash flow acceleration). Dispute management is a Worldpay product page of its own, with Disputes Deflector for deflecting disputes before a chargeback claim, Disputes Defender for AI-driven chargeback responses, Disputes Portal for tracking disputes and submitting evidence, and Disputes Direct API for programmatic chargeback management. The page does not state regional or eligibility limits, so confirm which products your merchant account includes.
Airwallex's Product Pillars
The Airwallex US site names Business Accounts (multi-currency accounts and international transfers), Spend, Payments, Billing, and Platform APIs and Embedded Finance. For acceptance, Airwallex Payments offers Checkout, Payment Links and Payment Plugins for platforms such as Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento, with 160+ local payment methods in 180+ countries. POS Payments is listed as coming soon. A merchant that only needs acceptance may use one or two of these pillars. Platforms embedding payments should compare Worldpay's Embed pillar with Airwallex's Platform APIs and Embedded Finance as separate configurations.

Corporate Ownership Is Separate From Product Scope
Global Payments completed its acquisition of Worldpay on January 12, 2026, per its investor relations announcement. That fact establishes the parent company. It does not establish which products your agreement covers, whether an account will migrate, or how Worldpay products work with any other provider. Ask Worldpay in writing which legal entity holds your acquiring agreement and whether any program or tooling changes apply to your account. For the full ownership comparison, see Global Payments vs Worldpay.
Compare Worldpay and Airwallex Pricing by Configuration
Airwallex lists three cumulative transaction fees in its documentation (gateway, payment method, and fraud and 3D Secure), an FX fee when the processing currency differs from the settlement currency, and an exception handling fee for disputes and requests for information. Card pricing can be interchange++ or blended; the documentation example is 2.9% + $0.30 blended, while the US pricing page lists 2.8% + $0.30 and 4.30% + $0.30 for domestic and international cards. Dispute fee amounts are on regional fee schedules. Build a cost model from your own data and signed proposals, including:
- Coûts de transaction nationaux et internationaux par canal et par mode de paiement.
- Cross-border, foreign-exchange and settlement-currency costs.
- Monthly, platform, software, hardware or minimum-volume fees.
- Refund, payout, reserve and failed-payment treatment.
- Dispute, retrieval and appeal fees.
Model today's mix, an expected growth mix, and a downside case with more refunds, international volume and disputes.
Reconcile Transaction Currency and Settlement Currency
For a cross-border sale, four questions decide how finance reconciles it: what currency the customer paid in, what currency the funds settle in, which party converts between them, and which record explains the bank receipt. The table traces one sale through each, using what the provider documentation states and what to ask for where it does not.
| Étape | Airwallex (documented) | Worldpay (documented) |
|---|---|---|
| Transaction currency | The settlement report shows the "Transaction currency", the original currency sent to Airwallex. | Card Payments v5 settle requests carry an amount and currency. The page states Worldpay does not validate that they match the original payment, so keep your own order record of the original amount. |
| Settlement currency | The report shows the "Settlement currency" as a three-letter ISO code. Like-for-like settlement is described to avoid unnecessary FX conversion. | The page checked does not describe settlement currency. Ask for the currencies your merchant account settles in. |
| FX owner | Airwallex charges an FX fee when processing currency differs from settlement currency. The report shows the exchange rate used. | The page checked does not describe currency conversion. Ask who converts and at what rate for your account. |
| Bank receipt | The report shows gross amount, fees and net amount per settlement batch and refers to amounts settled into your wallet. The page does not describe the path from wallet to a bank account. | A successful settle request does not mean the payment will be settled; that is at the discretion of the card acquirer. Ask for the acquirer settlement report that ties to your bank statement. |

Run one exercise on the same sample order for each proposed configuration: a cross-border sale followed by a partial refund. Record the original currency and amount, the exchange rate and the party that applied it, the fees, the settlement amount, and the report your finance team will use to explain the bank receipt.
Trace a Sale and Partial Refund to the Bank Receipt
Payment acceptance, settlement into a wallet and a bank payout are separate events. Join transaction-level records to the settlement batch, then join that batch or wallet movement to the payout. One bank receipt can contain many orders.
| Scène | Airwallex record | Worldpay or acquirer record |
|---|---|---|
| Capture and settlement | Payment ID, payment-attempt Source ID, Transaction ID and Settlement batch ID in the applicable settlement report. Retain transaction and settlement currencies and the exchange rate. | Original merchant order and charged payment reference; the contracted acquirer’s settlement batch and report. Confirm the report product and fields for your account. |
| Partial refund | Refund Source ID, original Payment ID, status and settlement-currency debit. Refundable funds may come from unsettled payments or available wallet balance. | For the current Payments API, retain the partial-refund reference, paymentId, requested amount and authorization currency. A sentForPartialRefund response is a request outcome; verify later records. |
| Fees and adjustments | Use the fee-details file to identify Source ID, Payment ID, Transaction ID, fee type and Settlement batch ID. Separate principal from fees, reserves and disputes. | Join separately reported processing/FX fees, reserve movements, refund adjustments and case debits using the relevant account statement. Do not assume a refund returns every fee. |
| Wallet or settlement → bank | The transaction-reconciliation report records payout/transfer Source Id, Reference, Status, currencies, amounts and fees. Match the bank receipt separately. | Match the acquirer’s payout/settlement reference, paid currency and net amount to the bank statement. Retain any later conversion or transfer record. |
Illustrative ledger, not provider pricing: suppose a €100 capture converts to $110 using an assumed $1.10/€ rate. An assumed $3 combined fee leaves $107. A later €20 refund costs an assumed $22 at the same rate, leaving $85. An assumed $1 payout charge leaves an $84 bank receipt: $110 − $3 − $22 − $1 = $84. All rates, fees and timing here are invented planning inputs; replace them with your records. A changed refund FX rate, retained fee, reserve or later refund batch changes the reconciliation.
Completion check: the order, refund, fee and payout rows must explain the bank amount with no unexplained residual. If you use funds to pay a supplier from the wallet instead, retain that transfer and its currency/FX record as a separate use of the balance. Mark absent quotes or report fields “confirm”; do not convert them into zero costs.

How Worldpay and Airwallex Handle Disputes
Know what a chargeback is before comparing workflows, since evidence requirements and deadlines follow the dispute stage, not the provider brand.
Processus de traitement des litiges Worldpay
Worldpay names Disputes Deflector, Disputes Defender, Disputes Portal and Disputes Direct API. The pages checked do not state deadlines, fees or regional availability, and the exact portal, automation and fee structure depend on the acquiring contract and product configuration. Confirm case deadlines, evidence channels and reporting fields during solution design.
Processus de traitement des litiges chez Airwallex
Airwallex shows dispute details in your Airwallex account and notifies merchants by email and webhooks. Its dispute flow documentation describes a pre-chargeback stage with 65 hours to act before auto-acceptance, a chargeback stage with 15 days, and pre-arbitration and arbitration stages with fees to the losing party of up to 500 USD. Airwallex states there are fees per dispute, listed on regional fee schedules.
A generic chargeback win rate is not a fair basis for comparing these providers, since results depend on dispute reason, merchant category, evidence quality and issuer behavior. Delivery, product-usage and customer-conversation evidence usually sits outside the payment provider, so map where each record lives before a case opens.
Worldpay vs Airwallex: Frequently Asked Questions
How Do Worldpay and Airwallex Differ on Currency Settlement?
Airwallex documents transaction currency, exchange rate, settlement currency, fees and net amount in its settlement report, and charges an FX fee when processing and settlement currencies differ. The Worldpay Card Payments v5 settlement page checked does not describe currency conversion, so ask Worldpay which party converts and which report ties to your bank receipt.
Who Owns Worldpay Now?
Global Payments completed its acquisition of Worldpay on January 12, 2026. Ownership does not confirm product features, account migrations or compatibility with other providers, so confirm the contracting entity and any program changes for your account with Worldpay.
Is Worldpay Better Than Airwallex?
Neither is better across the board. Worldpay's pillars cover acceptance, fraud protection, optimization, embedded payments and payouts, and Airwallex's cover payment acceptance together with multi-currency accounts and FX. Compare the named products against your markets, channels, settlement needs and evidence systems.
Is Worldpay Cheaper Than Airwallex?
It depends on country, card origin, payment method, currency conversion, volume and negotiated terms. Airwallex publishes US online card rates of 2.8% + $0.30 domestic and 4.30% + $0.30 international, and Worldpay shows no rates on its home page. Compare written proposals for the same transaction mix rather than one public rate.
Which Dispute Workflow Fits Worldpay or Airwallex Merchants?
Judge the workflow by timely notifications, funding impact, reason-specific requirements, evidence access, response tools and outcome reporting. Airwallex documents 65-hour and 15-day windows by stage, while Worldpay deadlines should be confirmed for your contract. Provider-level win rates cannot be compared unless case mix and calculation method are held constant.
Map Your Worldpay or Airwallex Payment and Evidence Workflow
Choose the configuration that matches your markets and settlement needs, then connect payments, orders, fulfillment, refunds and customer-service data so each transaction can be traced and defended. Some businesses route different countries or payment methods through each provider, which adds reconciliation and dispute-management overhead, so assign ownership and keep visibility in one place.
Chargeflow works alongside the payment provider. Its Airwallex integration page describes Chargeflow connecting to Airwallex dispute webhooks and pulling RFI, pre-chargeback, chargeback, pre-arbitration and arbitration cases into one workspace. Its Worldpay integration page describes a connection to Worldpay dispute data. Chargeflow's integration documentation lists Airwallex as New; the table checked October 4, 2026 does not list Worldpay, so confirm availability for your account. Chargeflow also offers chargeback prevention alerts where supported.
