Stripe and Airwallex both support online payments and international businesses. Stripe brings a broad payments and revenue product suite; Airwallex connects acceptance with multi-currency accounts, FX, transfers, and spend operations. The most useful comparison follows money from checkout through settlement and onward use.

Start with the payment gateway comparison to build a wider shortlist, then use this guide to evaluate the two providers against the same merchant requirements.

Stripe vs Airwallex Pricing and Fees

Use the product and geography shown below. A card-processing price and a wallet checkout price describe different services. Compare the same transaction types, currencies, and commercial scope before estimating total cost.

Pricing reviewed October 4, 2026. USD examples apply only to the stated US products.
Pricing detailStripeAirwallex
Published pricing and scopeUS standard pricing: 2.9% + $0.30 per successful domestic-card transaction, plus 1.5% for international cards and 1% when currency conversion is required. Billing is priced separately at 0.7% of Billing volume on pay-as-you-go plans. Stripe pricing.US pricing, all plans: domestic cards 2.8% + $0.30, international cards 4.30% + $0.30, local payment methods $0.30 plus the payment-method fee. FX markup is 0.5% above interbank rates on major currencies and 1% on all other currencies. Subscription billing and transfers are priced separately. Airwallex pricing.
Dispute chargesUS standard pricing lists $15 per dispute received and a separate $15 fee for manually countering a dispute. The manual countered fee is returned on a win; the received fee is separate.Airwallex documents a 65-hour window at the pre-chargeback stage and 15 days after escalation to chargeback; an unanswered dispute is automatically accepted. Confirm the dispute fee schedule for the account, currency, and dispute stage; payment acceptance rates do not establish chargeback fees.
Settlement questionsConfirm payout timing, currency, country, and account eligibility in the merchant agreement and Dashboard.Like-for-like settlement is offered in supported currencies. Confirm eligible currencies and the account-specific payout schedule.

Apply each proposal to a representative month of your own payments, then repeat it for each country and payment method you plan to add. The worked scenario below shows how the fee lines separate.

Match the Implementation to Your Business

Trace a customer payment through settlement, currency conversion, and a supplier payment, and price card acceptance separately from FX, transfers, billing, and account services. Ask each provider to demonstrate your own customer journey: payment, fulfillment, cancellation, refund, and support.

Your storefront also affects order records and fulfillment data. Use our ecommerce platform comparison when evaluating the commerce layer. If installment options are part of the plan, our BNPL comparison covers the related merchant workflows.

Stripe vs Airwallex for International Payments and FX

Compare Stripe and Airwallex for international payments by tracing the same transaction through customer payment, settlement, currency conversion, and use of the funds. Record the merchant’s country, card origin, charge currency, settlement currency, and supplier-payment currency separately.

Stripe’s currency documentation distinguishes presentment from settlement and describes additional settlement currencies where supported. Airwallex’s US pricing page separates payment acceptance, FX, transfers, and account services, and lists like-for-like settlement in supported currencies. Confirm each proposed currency route for your merchant entity.

Payment Acceptance Through International Supplier Payout

This illustrative scenario follows one sale from customer payment to a supplier payment. A US merchant receives a $1,000.00 USD card payment from a customer whose card was issued outside the US, then pays a EUR supplier invoice of $900.00 USD equivalent. It uses US published rates from Stripe pricing and Airwallex US pricing, reviewed October 4, 2026. It is a calculation aid, not a measured result, and each fee is counted once at the step where it applies.

PassoStripe (US standard pricing)Airwallex (US published pricing)
1. Gross customer payment$1,000.00 USD charged to a card issued outside the US. Charge currency and settlement currency are both USD.Same $1,000.00 USD sale.
2. Acceptance fees (US published rates)2.9% + $0.30 = $29.30, plus 1.5% international card fee = $15.00. Total $44.30.4.30% + $0.30 = $43.30.
3. Settlement$955.70 USD net balance. No conversion fee: charge and settlement currency match.$956.70 USD net balance. No FX fee: charge and settlement currency match.
4. Conversion (USD to EUR)The 1% conversion fee applies when a charge currency differs from settlement currency. It is not triggered here. Converting USD to pay a EUR supplier happens at your bank or another provider: enter that quote.Convert $900.00 USD to EUR for a EUR supplier invoice. FX markup 0.5% (assuming EUR is in the major-currency tier; confirm for your plan) = $4.50, expressed in USD.
5. Account usageNo monthly fee is listed for Stripe standard pricing. Funds are paid out to your bank account.Explore plan is $0 per user per month. Funds can stay in the USD balance until used.
6. Transfer to supplierPayout and onward transfer fees depend on your bank or other provider: enter that quote.SWIFT transfers are listed at $15 to $25 per transfer. Local EUR transfer fees depend on destination: enter that quote if you use one.
7. Optional products (not in the total)Billing at 0.7% would add $7.00 if this $1,000.00 were Billing volume.Subscription billing at 0.50% would add $5.00 if this $1,000.00 were billed through it.
Fees counted once from published US rates$44.30 at acceptance. Conversion and transfer: quote required.$47.80 through conversion ($43.30 + $4.50), or $62.80 to $72.80 with a SWIFT transfer.

Refunds, disputes and payout timing are excluded. Stripe lists $15 per dispute received and $15 for each manual response, returned if you win. Both routes need your own quote for any step marked "enter." The totals describe fee lines from published rates, not which route costs less: Stripe's route leaves conversion and supplier transfer with your bank or another provider, while Airwallex prices them inside the account. Compare the net usable funds from identical scenarios once those quotes are in.

International Payment and FX Quote Worksheet

Complete this manual worksheet for each proposal, using the same period, volume, currency, and assumptions. It does not fetch prices or rank providers.

Copy-ready worksheet. Enter your own quoted terms and operating assumptions.
InputCalculation or recordScope check
Payment acceptanceValue × applicable rate + count × fixed feeSeparate card origins and payment methods
Conversão de moedaAmount converted and quoted destination proceedsRecord quote time and both currencies
Settlement and onward transfersPer-transfer fees and eligible routesKeep holding currency separate from payout currency
Account services and finance laborRecurring service costs + hours × hourly costUse the same operating period
Refunds and other adjustmentsActual scenario-specific balance movementsReconcile to the original payment

For each route, compare net destination-currency funds after applicable acceptance, conversion, settlement, and transfer charges. Convert separate overhead into the same reporting currency before totaling.

Record the source or quote date for every input and treat pending prices as unresolved inputs, not zero cost. If a quoted proceeds figure already includes a fee, do not subtract it again.

Follow the Money Across Currencies

Turn the quote worksheet into a transaction check: connect the customer payment, the balance entry, any executed currency conversion and the final bank or supplier payment. Keep each amount in its own currency. A USD balance decrease and a EUR balance increase are two sides of a conversion, not two costs to add together.

  1. Record the payment and its balance entry, including currency and amount units.
  2. If conversion occurred, save the actual sold and bought amounts and execution reference.
  3. Match the payout or supplier transfer to the recipient’s receipt. Track any difference separately.

Availability is a separate checkpoint: Stripe’s available_on describes funds becoming available in the Stripe balance. Airwallex financial transactions have their own settlement timestamp and status. Neither record alone confirms that a bank or supplier received the money.

The client rate is the executed customer rate; awx_rate is a reference rate.
Payout and timingFor automatic payouts, use the itemized payout reconciliation report. Manual or instant payouts need balance/history reconciliation; do not assume the same automatic transaction batch is available.Retain source-operation IDs, created_at, settled_at and status. Join the corresponding conversion and payout or supplier-transfer records, then check the recipient receipt.

For a useful pilot, compare destination-currency funds actually received and the separately recorded costs. Keep unknown bank charges open until confirmed. This gives finance a repeatable check for your enabled setup without claiming a universal FX winner.

Compare what the payment provider already supplies with the order records your business contributes. Delivery confirmation, digital usage, cancellation terms, refunds, and support conversations should connect to the original payment. Our chargeback guide explains the lifecycle, and our compelling evidence guide explains the role of supporting records.

Evaluate Dispute Readiness With Your Own Orders

Run a practical exercise with anonymized examples from your business. This is a suggested evaluation method, not a published provider benchmark.

  • Select relevant scenarios such as physical delivery, digital access, subscription cancellation, and partial refunds.
  • For each scenario, record the case deadline, available evidence, additional records needed, and person responsible for submission.
  • Check how the dispute result and fees reach finance reporting.
  • Compare preparation time and data completeness using the same scenarios for both implementations.

How Chargeflow Supports Stripe and Airwallex Merchants

Chargeflow’s Stripe integration and Airwallex integration complement the providers’ payment tools with dedicated dispute operations. Chargeflow Automation supports evidence collection and recovery across supported connections. Confirm account scope and assign submission ownership during setup.

The Chargeflow integration documentation lists both connections as live; Airwallex is marked New. A payment-processor connection routes disputes into Chargeflow; commerce and communication connections add supporting records. Map the required sources before launch, or schedule a demo to review the workflow.

Stripe vs Airwallex: Frequently Asked Questions

How Should I Choose Between Stripe and Airwallex?

Choose between Stripe and Airwallex by the workflow you need to run: Stripe for a broad payments and revenue product suite, Airwallex where acceptance, multi-currency accounts, FX and supplier transfers sit together. List your required countries, methods, channels, and operational tasks, then validate each provider’s proposed setup against that list.

Is Stripe Cheaper Than Airwallex?

Stripe and Airwallex costs depend on the product, country, transaction mix, and commercial agreement. On a $1,000.00 USD card payment from a card issued outside the US, US published acceptance fees are $44.30 on Stripe standard pricing and $43.30 on Airwallex, before conversion, transfers, disputes and optional products. Those later steps are priced separately, as the supplier-payout scenario above shows.

Can I Use Both Stripe and Airwallex?

A business can use Stripe and Airwallex together where its accounts, agreements, and integration support that arrangement. Define which provider handles each payment method or flow, and preserve a shared order reference for refunds, reconciliation, and dispute operations.

Does Chargeflow Work With Stripe and Airwallex?

Chargeflow’s current integration documentation lists both Stripe and Airwallex as live payment-processor connections. Confirm the required accounts and evidence sources during onboarding. Chargeflow complements the providers’ tools with specialized dispute operations.

Customer Examples: Billing Operations and International Payouts

Stripe’s Chargeflow customer story describes consolidating usage-based service events into invoices and reports 80 hours of monthly manual work saved. This is Chargeflow’s own billing implementation, not a merchant chargeback-recovery result.

Airwallex’s McLaren Racing customer story describes international supplier payments using an approval workflow and batch payout template. The finance team reported saving half a day per month on international payment runs. The story identifies Business Account, Global Accounts, and FX & Transfers as products used.

The stories illustrate different operating needs and cannot establish which provider saves more time. Use the billing example to design your invoice demonstration and the supplier-payment example to design your treasury demonstration. Neither story establishes Airwallex-plus-Chargeflow recovery performance.
