- Magento means Magento Open Source or Adobe Commerce. This comparison uses Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure (PaaS), which Adobe sells by quote, and a Wix Stores site with Wix Payments in the United States. Wix lists Light, Core, Business and Business Elite plans, with prices that vary by location.
- For an engraved, customizable product, Adobe documents configurable products with a SKU, price and quantity per variation, plus customizable options with a text type, a required setting, a character limit and a fixed or percentage price. Wix documents product options that create priced variants and text box modifiers for customer text, which do not carry their own price.
- Preserve the selected text and actual discounted price on the order line. Adobe lists order-item options and excludes fixed-price customizable options from catalog price-rule discounts. Check both platforms’ production instructions, packing slips and exports.
- Chargeflow lists Magento and Wix ecommerce enrichment as Coming soon. Confirm the payment-processor connection and order-record access separately.
Magento vs Wix compares enterprise customization with managed website and business tools, part of a broader ecommerce platform comparison series. Magento fits complex catalogs, B2B, and custom workflows backed by technical resources; Wix fits smaller and midsize businesses prioritizing speed, visual control, and simpler operations.
Because neither Magento nor Wix ecommerce enrichment is live inside Chargeflow yet, merchants on either platform should look closely at how order, payment, fulfillment, refund, subscription, consent, and support records stay connected well before a dispute lands.

Where Magento and Wix Really Diverge
Magento and Wix sit at different ends of the commerce architecture spectrum. Magento is designed for extensive customization and complex operations, while Wix is designed to help businesses launch and manage a polished site with limited technical overhead. Specify Magento Open Source or the exact Adobe Commerce product and deployment, and assign architecture, hosting, security and releases to your team and implementation partners. On Wix, the platform manages hosting, core security and upgrades, and your team configures the storefront, apps and integrations.
Preserve Personalization From Checkout to Fulfillment
Generic platform advice does not answer the question a personalized-product merchant faces: after the order ships, can you still show which variant, which text and which price the customer accepted? This scenario fixes both configurations.
A leather goods brand sells a wallet in three colors and two sizes, with a line of engraved text up to 20 characters for an $8 surcharge on a $60 base price.
The Adobe configuration is Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure (PaaS), described by Adobe as single-tenant, dedicated cloud infrastructure with pricing by quote. The Wix configuration is a Wix Stores site on a paid ecommerce plan taking cards through Wix Payments in the United States.
Wix lists Light, Core, Business and Business Elite plans and states that prices and currency vary by location. Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service (SaaS) are different editions and may behave differently.
Trace the same five facts through each configuration, from the product page to a lookup a year later.
Show the Personalization Record Walkthrough
| Fact to preserve | Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure (PaaS) | Wix Stores with Wix Payments (US) | Pass condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Variant selected | Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure (PaaS)Configurable product. Adobe documents configurable products where each variation is a separate simple product with its own SKU, price and quantity. | Wix Stores with Wix Payments (US)Product options. Wix documents options that create variants, each with its own price, inventory, SKU and shipping weight, up to 6 options per product. | Pass conditionOrder line shows the exact color and size SKU |
| 2. Personalization text entered | Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure (PaaS)Customizable option of the Text type, as a field or area. Adobe documents a required setting, a maximum character limit and an option SKU suffix. | Wix Stores with Wix Payments (US)Text box modifier. Wix documents text boxes that can be required or optional, with a character limit set by the merchant. Up to 10 modifiers per product. | Pass conditionExact customer text stored with the order line |
| 3. Final price | Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure (PaaS)The customizable option has a fixed or percentage price type, so an engraving surcharge can be a priced option. The variation price is separate. | Wix Stores with Wix Payments (US)Modifiers cannot have varied pricing. A surcharge needs a priced product option, such as an Engraved choice, which adds to the variant count. | Pass conditionOrder line matches base price, surcharge and applied discounts; reconcile tax and shipping separately |
| 4. Fulfillment instruction | Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure (PaaS)Adobe’s order view lists items ordered, shipments, invoices and comments. Its Items Ordered section includes the product name, SKU and options where applicable. Confirm the selected text on the actual purchased line. | Wix Stores with Wix Payments (US)On the order page, Wix states that product-related answers appear under the product name. The packing slip lists the products purchased, and the page does not say whether it prints modifier text. | Pass conditionProduction team sees the text without opening a second system |
| 5. Historical lookup | Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure (PaaS)Most admin grids export to CSV or XML, per the grid controls page. Order archive is available in Adobe Commerce, not Magento Open Source. The pages checked do not list the customizable option among exported fields. | Wix Stores with Wix Payments (US)The order export offers item-based or order-based rows and selectable columns. The article does not say whether variants or modifier text are included. | Pass conditionExport one personalized order and find the text, variant and price in the file |
Both platforms document how the selection is collected. Adobe lists selected options on ordered items; Wix states where the customer text appears on the order page. The cited pages do not establish whether your packing slip or export carries that text. Check those outputs on the enabled setup before relying on them.
Run the test with three orders on your real configuration. First, an engraved wallet in one color and size. Second, the same variant with different text, to confirm the text belongs to the order line and not to the product.
Third, an engraved order that is partially refunded, to confirm the final price and the refund both appear on the same order. For each, check the order page, the packing slip, the export and the processor transaction, and note which record a fulfillment team and a dispute reviewer would actually open.
If the text is missing from any of those records, add it deliberately, for example in an order note or comment that the fulfillment step copies. Adobe’s order view lists comments for an order. For Wix, confirm which order-level field your team can edit. The fix is a process choice, not a new platform. Confirm the chosen field survives export before relying on it.
One cost line is easy to model. On a $68 order, which is $60 plus the $8 engraving, Wix Payments in the United States charges 2.9% + $0.30 on most cards, so $1.97 + $0.30 = $2.27 per the Wix Payments service fees. Wix does not return that fee on a refund. Adobe Commerce has no published price, so a comparable total needs the Adobe quote plus implementation, extension and hosting responsibilities. This is an illustration, not a quote.
Compare the payment layer with our payment gateway comparison, and use the compelling evidence guide to plan supporting records.
Reconcile the Personalization Surcharge
Keep the engraving text beside the price the customer actually accepted. For Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure (PaaS), a catalog price rule does not discount a fixed-price customizable option. An eligible cart price rule can discount the cart content including the option markup. The rule type can therefore change the final amount for the same personalized item.
Two independent illustrations, before tax and shipping: the $60 wallet plus $8 fixed engraving option totals $68. A 10% catalog discount on the base product gives $54 + $8 = $62. An eligible 10% cart discount covering the full $68 gives $61.20. These examples do not stack the rules; confirm eligibility and configuration in your store.
- Save the placed-order line, exact engraving text and selected variant.
- Preserve the applied discount and actual line amount, rather than rebuilding the price from today’s catalog.
- Join the approved production instruction and any later refund to that same line.
Show Personalization Price and Production Records

Check which values your catalog and customization app actually populate. |
| Accepted amount | Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure (PaaS)Retain the fixed or percentage option price, applied discount rule and actual order-line amount. Check the catalog-rule exception for fixed-price options. | Wix StoresRetain the priced product option and actual discount and line amount. A customer text modifier does not supply its own variable price. |
| Production and refund join | Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure (PaaS)Compare the approved engraving instruction with the saved order option. Proposed discount check: place one personalized order with each eligible rule separately. Confirm the checkout amount, stored selection and production instruction agree. Then check that a partial refund points back to that purchased line. These are acceptance checks, not observed merchant results.
Dispute Evidence for a Personalized Order
When a buyer disputes an engraved item, the evidence is the order line with the variant and text, the price shown at checkout, the policy on custom items, the shipment record and the customer messages. The processor sets the evidence requirements and deadlines. On Wix Payments you respond with a cover letter and supporting documents, as the Wix chargeback article describes, so the saved text and shipment record need to be retrievable by the person who responds.
The payment layer decides who handles a dispute. Adobe Commerce connects to payment services through native capabilities and extensions, and the selected processor usually owns the dispute case, while the commerce platform holds order and fulfillment context.
On Wix, a merchant using Wix Payments responds from the payment in the Wix dashboard through Dispute Chargeback. Wix states that the deadline depends on the payment network and that it may dispute automatically if you do not respond.
Wix lists a US chargeback fee of $15 USD for card payments, returned with the funds if you win, and $20 for PayPal in the US, per its chargeback fee page and service fees page.
A generic chargeback win rate is not a basis for comparing platforms, since outcomes depend on reason code, evidence quality, issuer behavior and the calculation method.
Making the Call Between Magento and Wix
Choose Adobe Commerce when custom catalog, pricing, checkout or multi-site requirements justify a dedicated implementation team and a quoted license. Choose Wix when its built-in tools remove systems your team would otherwise run, and the product options and text box modifiers cover your personalization needs. If you need a surcharge that scales with the customer’s input, test the Wix option-based workaround before you commit.
Chargeflow's Role While Magento and Wix Enrichment Are Still Coming Soon
Both integrations currently show as Coming soon inside Chargeflow, Magento ecommerce enrichment and Wix ecommerce enrichment alike, so neither should be treated as a live ecommerce connection yet. Merchants can still connect an available payment processor so disputes route into Chargeflow, use the Chargeflow API where appropriate, and keep order, fulfillment, and communication data reliable for evidence.
Chargeflow is built to sit alongside the commerce platform and the payment provider, not to replace either. The storefront and order lifecycle stay with the commerce platform, and the processor keeps authorizing and routing payments. On top of that, Chargeflow can add a dedicated layer for automated chargeback recovery, evidence enrichment, prevention, alerts, analytics, and cross-processor visibility, depending on which products and connections are in use.
Veelgestelde vragen
How Do Magento and Wix Keep Personalization Linked to the Order?
Adobe Commerce stores a variant through a configurable product and customer text through a customizable option of the Text type. Wix stores a variant through a product option and customer text through a text box modifier.
Both platforms document how the selection is collected. Adobe lists options on ordered items, and Wix states that the answer appears under the product name on the order page. Confirm whether the packing slip and export used by your team include the selected text.
Place a test order and confirm the variant, text, final price and fulfillment instruction on each record.
When Should a Merchant Pick Magento Over Wix?
Pick Adobe Commerce when catalog complexity, B2B or multi-site needs, or custom checkout rules justify implementation partners and a quoted license. Pick Wix when a hosted site with built-in business tools covers your catalog and the options and modifiers handle your customization.
Is Magento cheaper than Wix?
Adobe Commerce is priced by Adobe quote, so no public plan price exists to compare. Wix lists plans named Light, Core, Business and Business Elite, with prices that vary by location. Compare quoted totals including implementation, extensions, apps, payment processing and team time.
How Do Magento and Wix Connect to Chargeflow?
For chargeback operations, what matters is how reliably the processor’s case ties back to the order, customer, fulfillment, refund and communication history. Chargeflow currently lists both Magento and Wix ecommerce enrichment as Coming soon. Verify the exact Chargeflow and processor configuration before implementation.
Does Magento mean Magento Open Source or Adobe Commerce?
The name Magento covers two distinct products: Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce, the enterprise edition built on the same foundation. Because licensing, cloud services, support, B2B capabilities, and implementation cost vary significantly between them, pin down the exact edition and deployment model before evaluating further.
