TL;DR:

A wallet or buy-now-pay-later brand does not identify the dispute route on its own. Start with the actual product and payment type, then use the relevant merchant guide for a tokenized card purchase, a transfer, or a BNPL order.

Key Takeaways:
  • For Apple Pay or Google Pay card purchases, identify the underlying card payment and the provider that processed it.
  • For Venmo, distinguish a merchant purchase, a person-to-person transfer, and a card-funded payment.
  • For Affirm or Klarna, verify the product, market, order status, and provider case instructions before assuming card-network rules apply.

Match the transaction before evaluating liability

Record the processor payment ID, order ID, amount, currency, capture time, product, and available wallet or authentication fields. Card digits alone can be an incomplete matching key for tokenized payments. Authentication evidence and delivery evidence answer different questions; neither should substitute for the other.

Stripe’s Apple Pay documentation explains the card-payment workflow for that integration. Use the 3D Secure guide for authentication context, and confirm transaction-specific liability conditions with the processing provider.
