Resumo:
- Shopify tiers its agency partners as Select, Plus, Premier, or Platinum, so check the tier in the Partner Directory before you read a portfolio.
- Shopify's own agency guide puts enterprise and Plus work above $50,000, so scope the project before you compare quotes.
- The fifteen agencies below were checked against their own websites in October 2026, and four agencies from the 2022 list were dropped.
- Ask every agency how it handles Checkout Extensibility and order data, because checkout choices affect both conversion and chargebacks.
A Shopify Plus agency is a firm that designs, builds, migrates, and supports stores on Shopify's enterprise plan, and Shopify tiers its partners as Select, Plus, Premier, or Platinum based on experience and proven success on the platform. This guide covers how those tiers work, what agency work costs, and fifteen agencies we checked against their own websites in October 2026.

How Shopify Partner Tiers Work
Shopify's Partner Directory says partners are tiered based on multiple factors, including their history of experience and proven success on Shopify. Shopify's agency guide describes the fit for each tier:
| Partner tier | Shopify's description of the fit |
|---|---|
| Select | Small and medium businesses that need basic customization. |
| Plus | Mid-market brands that need Shopify Plus builds and advanced integrations. |
| Premier | Large enterprises with complex builds, B2B, or international needs. |
| Platina | Global enterprises that need multi-region and advanced architecture. |
Tier is a starting filter, not a guarantee. Confirm an agency's tier in the directory, ask for references from brands in your revenue range, and make sure the upgrade itself makes sense first: our Shopify vs. Shopify Plus breakdown has the cost and signal checklist, and our complete Shopify Plus guide covers the platform itself. Reviewing real Shopify Plus stores before you brief an agency also helps you point to what you want built.
What Shopify Plus Agency Work Costs
Shopify's agency guide gives typical project costs by scope:
Directional figures from Shopify’s agency guide
Budget by the actual project scope
Basic Shopify builds
$5K-$10K
Mid-tier custom builds
$15K-$35K
Enterprise and Shopify Plus work
$50,000+
Marketing retainers
Under $30K a year
Source: Shopify's ecommerce agency guide. Shopify cites a Databox survey for the retainer figure.
These fees sit on top of the platform. Shopify's Plus pricing page lists Shopify Plus from $2,500 a month on a one-year term or $2,300 a month on a three-year term, or a variable platform fee for more complex business structures, and says Shopify does not charge for migration itself. Our Shopify Plus pricing guide breaks down the subscription, and our guide to how to migrate to Shopify Plus covers what an agency will scope for a platform move.
To see how these pieces stack, here is a first-year illustration built only from the figures above. It is not a quote.
| Year-one line | Figura | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify Plus subscription | $27,600 to $30,000 | 12 months at $2,300 (three-year term) or $2,500 (one-year term) |
| Agency build | $50,000 and up | Shopify's agency guide figure for enterprise and Shopify Plus work |
| Subtotal before retainer and apps | $77,600 and up | Subscription plus build, before any variable platform fee |
| Optional marketing retainer | Under $30,000 a year (Shopify's guide); far higher in some quotes | Sources differ widely, so get the scope and the revenue metric in writing |
Third-party hourly and retainer figures depend on who is quoting, so the table keeps each source separate instead of blending them:
| Fonte | What it measures | Figura |
|---|---|---|
| Clutch Shopify developer directory | Average hourly rate across the e-commerce development companies listed there | $25 to $49 per hour |
| Blackbelt Commerce, May 2026 estimate | Hourly rate for Shopify Plus Certified Partner agencies | $175 to $300 per hour |
| Blackbelt Commerce, same estimate | Monthly retainer for Shopify Plus Certified Partner agencies | $15,000 to $50,000 per month |
The Clutch figure averages every listed provider, so it is not a Plus Certified Partner rate, and Blackbelt Commerce is itself an agency quoting its own market. Get a line-item scope in writing before you compare quotes.
What to Ask Before Hiring a Shopify Plus Agency
Use these questions to compare agencies. The first five come from Shopify's own selection guidance.
Compare scope, team, results and ownership
Seven questions for an agency proposal
Have you worked with brands in our revenue range?
Partner tiers map to business size, so an agency strong with small stores may not fit an enterprise build.
Who will actually work on our account?
The team that pitches is not always the team that builds, so name the people and their roles.
What results have comparable clients seen?
Ask for named metrics and check them against the client's own materials.
How do you measure success?
Agree on conversion, average order value, or revenue targets before work starts so both sides judge the same numbers.
What does your offboarding process look like?
You should keep code access, app ownership, and documentation if the relationship ends.
Do you build on Checkout Extensibility and Shopify Functions?
Shopify requires Plus stores to replace checkout.liquid with Checkout Extensibility and Scripts with Functions, so new work should not depend on the old tools.
Como funciona a estrutura de preços?
Fixed project fees, retainers, and hourly work behave differently when scope changes.
Red Flags When Vetting a Shopify Plus Agency
Walk away, or ask for proof, when you see these signs during the sales process:
| Sinal de alerta | What to ask for instead |
|---|---|
| It cannot name Shopify Plus stores it launched | Two or three live Plus store URLs and a reference you can call. |
| Vague answers on checkout.liquid, Scripts, and Functions | A written plan for how checkout logic will run on Checkout Extensibility and Shopify Functions. |
| No redirect or SEO plan for a replatform | A named owner for the 301 map, plus post-launch checks of rankings and indexed URLs. |
| Case studies with no named metrics | Named results you can compare with the client's own materials. |
| A lump-sum quote with no line items | A written scope with deliverables, assumptions, and change-order rules. |
| Pressure to sign before you have compared quotes | Time to review two or three proposals side by side. |
| No post-launch support or offboarding terms | Support hours after launch, plus code access, app ownership, and documentation if you leave. |
| A partner tier that does not appear in the directory | A match between what the agency claims and its Partner Directory listing. |
Checkout and Fraud Settings an Agency Should Not Break
Shopify's deadline to upgrade from checkout.liquid to Checkout Extensibility was August 13, 2024 for the information, shipping, and payment pages and August 28, 2025 for the Thank you and Order status pages. Per Shopify's upgrade guidance, stores that had not upgraded faced locked customizations, disabled payment gateway controls, disabled fraud indicators, and delayed payouts, and Plus merchants must replace Shopify Scripts with Shopify Functions. Our guide to Shopify Plus checkout customization covers what to specify.
Agency decisions also shape dispute outcomes. Chargeback responses rely on order, shipping, and customer-communication records, so ask your agency to keep those data flows intact when it changes checkout, apps, or email. Our guide to Shopify Plus chargeback and fraud protection covers the controls, and peak-season launches are when it pays to stop post-holiday chargebacks before they start. Chargeflow's Shopify app reads that order data to win Shopify chargeback disputes automatically, and Chargeflow's Shopify integration plugs in with one click.
What a Shopify Plus Migration Timeline Looks Like
1Digital Agency published a 12-week Magento to Shopify Plus plan in August 2026 for a mid-market merchant with roughly 5,000 to 25,000 SKUs, one storefront, and two to three locales. Use it as a benchmark from one agency, not an official Shopify schedule:
1Digital Agency benchmark · not an official Shopify schedule
A three-phase migration plan
1Discovery and architecture
Weeks 1 to 4: Catalog audit, schema mapping, theme architecture, and the redirect map
2Implementation and integration
Weeks 5 to 8: Staging data migration, ERP and 3PL connections, Shopify Functions, and the storefront build
3Validation and cutover
Weeks 9 to 12: QA, SEO validation, a cutover rehearsal, launch, and day-one support
The same source says catalogs under 1,000 SKUs with no B2B needs can compress to 8 to 10 weeks, while larger catalogs, multiple storefronts, or B2B price lists run 16 to 20 weeks. It also treats discovery, redirect mapping, and data migration as steps that cannot be safely shortened, so push back on any quote that cuts them.

Swanky
Swanky splits its work into launch services (migrations, development, design, subscriptions, integrations, internationalization, B2B, and branding) and growth services (conversion optimization, analytics, email, paid media, SEO, and loyalty). It references more than 15 years of client work and has offices in the UK, Australia, and France, which suits multi-country brands.

We Make Websites
We Make Websites is a London and New York agency that describes itself as part of Tech Mahindra and the BORN group, and says it has been a Shopify Partner since 2011. Four agencies from the 2022 version of this page are no longer listed. Redstage's site leads with Magento, lists Shopify Plus as a secondary service, and carries no content dated after 2016, and The Snow Agency was acquired by Avenue Z. We could not confirm a current Shopify Plus focus for Tegra or Oddit. Propeller and BSS Commerce now state Shopify Plus Partner or Premier Partner status on their own sites, so they are listed again.

Shopify Plus Agencies FAQs
What Is a Shopify Plus Agency?
A Shopify Plus agency is a firm that designs, builds, migrates, and supports stores on Shopify's enterprise plan. Shopify's partner program tiers agencies as Select, Plus, Premier, or Platinum.
How Much Does a Shopify Plus Agency Cost?
Shopify's agency guide puts enterprise and Shopify Plus agency work at more than $50,000, mid-tier custom builds at $15,000 to $35,000, and marketing retainers at less than $30,000 a year. Blackbelt Commerce, an agency, estimates $175 to $300 per hour for Plus Certified Partner agencies. The Shopify Plus subscription is separate and starts at $2,300 a month on a three-year term.
How Do I Find a Certified Shopify Plus Agency?
Search Shopify's Partner Directory and check each agency's tier, which can be Select, Plus, Premier, or Platinum, along with its reviews and featured work. Then ask for references from brands in your revenue range, because tier alone does not show fit.
What Is the Difference Between Plus, Premier, and Platinum Partners?
Shopify describes Plus partners as suited to mid-market Shopify Plus builds, Premier partners to large enterprises with complex, B2B, or international needs, and Platinum partners to global enterprises needing multi-region architecture. Shopify tiers partners by experience and proven success on the platform.
Do I Need an Agency to Migrate to Shopify Plus?
No. Shopify does not charge for migration itself, but large catalogs, custom integrations, or several storefronts often benefit from agency help, and the agency fee then covers the scoping, data migration, and build work.
Can a Shopify Plus Agency Handle International Stores?
Yes. Agencies such as Swanky, Eastside Co, and Charle operate in several countries, and Swanky lists internationalization as a service. Confirm that the team has launched multi-currency and multi-language stores for brands like yours.
How Long Does a Shopify Plus Migration Take?
One agency plans a mid-market Shopify Plus migration at about 12 weeks, 8 to 10 weeks for small catalogs, and 16 to 20 weeks for large catalogs, multiple storefronts, or B2B price lists. That is a practitioner benchmark rather than an official Shopify figure, and timelines move with catalog size, custom integrations, and how many storefronts launch together.
What Are the Top Shopify Plus Agencies in the USA?
Shopify Plus agencies with US presence, per their own websites, include Coalition Technologies (Los Angeles), Absolute Web (Miami and Los Angeles), Barrel (which lists New York City, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia), Netalico (offices across the US), and Eastside Co, Charle, We Make Websites, and Propeller, each with a New York office. Confirm each agency's partner tier in Shopify's Partner Directory and ask for references from US brands in your revenue range.
Which Shopify Plus Agency Is the Best?
No Shopify Plus agency is best for every store, because fit depends on project type, revenue range, region, and the platform you are leaving. Shortlist two or three agencies whose own sites list your project type, such as migration, B2B, international, headless, or marketing-led growth, then compare references from brands in your revenue range and a written scope.
Should I Hire an Agency, a Freelancer, or Build In-House?
Hire an agency for migrations, ERP integrations, and checkout work that needs design, development, and QA together. A freelancer fits small, well-defined fixes such as a theme change or a single app setup. An in-house team fits ongoing roadmap work once you have enough to keep developers busy year-round, and you pay salaries instead of project fees. Whichever route you choose, keep code access, app ownership, and documentation in your own accounts.
Should My Shopify Plus Agency Handle Chargebacks?
Agencies configure checkout, apps, and data flows, while chargeback prevention and dispute response run as ongoing tooling. Ask your agency to keep order, shipping, and customer-communication records intact so a chargeback tool can use them as evidence.
Plan Protection Into Your Shopify Build
Review Chargeflow’s Shopify integration when you scope order data, fraud review and dispute evidence for launch.
