Kount: Scope and Pricing to Verify

Kount is a fraud prevention and digital identity platform. Equifax agreed to buy it for $640 million in January 2021, and Kount 360, its current platform, launched on 2 March 2023 on the Equifax Cloud. As of 28 October 2026, kount.com redirects to Equifax's Identity and Fraud page, while Kount's pricing page still runs on go.kount.com.

Principais recursos

  • Payments Fraud on Kount 360: Omniscore, an AI safety rating from 0.1 to 99.9 that drives approve, decline or review decisions (per Equifax).
  • Policies and reviews: create, edit and test business policies, plus a case management tool for manual reviews.
  • Digital Identity Global Network: Equifax says it draws on 20,000+ brands and 60 billion annual interactions.
  • Kount Control and Kount Central: account takeover protection, and fraud protection with merchant risk reporting for payment providers.
  • Dispute and Chargeback Management: inquiries, alerts and notifications in one dashboard, integratable with Verifi and Ethoca, with automatic refunds based on your criteria (Equifax product sheet).

  • Integrations: 70+ payment processors and card networks per Equifax, plus a Shopify app launched in September 2022.

Preços

  • G2 lists no free plan and no free trial.
  • Confirm recovery fees, recurring charges and contract terms in the written proposal; public materials do not provide a comparable rate.
  • The Shopify app is free to install, with additional service fees that Kount quotes separately.

Limitações

  1. Quote-only pricing, so you need a sales cycle just to compare costs.
  2. Dated G2 implementation and ROI figures are self-reported snapshots, not a controlled comparison or a forecast for your setup.
  3. Kount combines multiple fraud and dispute services. Ask which modules, evidence sources and managed tasks are included in your quote.

Where Chargeflow and Kount 360 Act in an Order's Life

Both platforms cover several stages. Compare the specific products enabled on your account at each stage.

  1. At checkout and before fulfillment: Kount's Omniscore scores orders before approval. Chargeflow Prevent screens orders after authorization and before you ship, and its branded verification flow creates dispute evidence.
  2. After the sale, before a chargeback (pre-dispute): the cardholder calls the bank. Alerts give you a window to refund or share order details before a chargeback is filed. Both vendors offer this. See how CDRN and Ethoca alerts work.
  3. After a chargeback is filed (post-transaction): you either accept the loss or submit evidence. Chargeflow Automation does this end to end. Kount also offers Chargeback Recovery. Compare evidence collection, merchant review steps, exclusions and fees for the exact service being quoted.

Friendly fraud is why the third step matters. A friendly fraud chargeback comes from the real cardholder, with a matching device, card and address, so a pre-sale score approves it. Mastercard, citing Datos, reported in 2023 that 75% of digital goods merchants' card-not-present fraud was first-party fraud. Mastercard also forecasts that chargebacks will cost merchants $42 billion globally by 2028. Read more on friendly fraud.

What a Chargeback Costs at $60, $250 and $1,200

Scope of the illustration: recovered revenue is conditional on winning. Provider fees are not total merchant loss: include customer refunds, processor fees, goods, shipping and internal work where applicable. An eligible alert resolution does not automatically remove a separate fraud report.

Kount publishes no rates, so here is the math for the parts you can price today. The example assumes a US merchant on Stripe, which charges a $15 dispute received fee and a $15 countered fee that is returned when you win (checked 28 October 2026). Product cost is ignored.

On smaller screens, scroll the table horizontally to compare all columns.

What a Chargeback Costs at $60, $250 and $1,200
Cenário$60 order$250 order$1,200 order
Chargeback not contested (order + $15)$75 lost$265 lost$1,215 lost
Chargeflow fee when a dispute is lost$0$0$0
Won with Chargeflow Automation (25% fee + $15 received fee)$30 cost, $30 kept$77.50 cost, $172.50 kept$315 cost, $885 kept
Deflected with Chargeflow Alerts (no dispute filed)$29 fee, no dispute fee, eligible pre-dispute exclusions; separate fraud reports may still count$29 fee, no dispute fee, eligible pre-dispute exclusions; separate fraud reports may still count$29 fee, no dispute fee, eligible pre-dispute exclusions; separate fraud reports may still count
Kount screening or dispute productQuote onlyQuote onlyQuote only

Two takeaways. First, Chargeflow charges nothing when a dispute is lost, and on a $1,200 order a win keeps $885 that would otherwise be a $1,215 loss, so high-ticket disputes are worth fighting. Second, a chargeback deflected with Alerts costs a flat $29 with no dispute fee and may qualify for exclusion from the relevant dispute count, which pays off fast when you sit near a VAMP or ECM threshold. Fraud screening cannot change any row in this table for a friendly fraud order, because that order passed screening. Your real cost also depends on your win rate, so ask any vendor for win rates by reason code.

How Each Tool Moves Your Visa VAMP Ratio

Visa's VAMP fact sheet defines the ratio as fraud reports (TC40) plus disputes (TC15), divided by settled transactions. Key rules:

  • In the US, the Excessive merchant threshold dropped from 220 to 150 basis points (1.5%) on 1 April 2026, with a minimum of 1,500 fraud reports and disputes per month.
  • Disputes resolved through pre-dispute solutions are excluded from the count. Visa's own VAMP update confirms that pre-dispute tools are excluded.
  • Mastercard's Excessive Chargeback Merchant level starts at a 1.5% ratio and 100 chargebacks, per Paystack.

Here is a worked example. A merchant settles 120,000 Visa card-not-present transactions in a month and logs 1,100 fraud reports and 900 disputes. That is 2,000 incidents, a 1.67% ratio, so the merchant is Excessive. If alerts resolve 400 of those disputes before they are filed, the count drops to 1,600 and the ratio to 1.33%. Better screening helps the fraud report side. Alerts help the dispute side. A won chargeback recovers your money, but under Visa's formula the dispute still counts. That is why Chargeflow pairs Automation with Alerts. Model your own numbers with the VAMP calculator and read the VAMP guide.

Onboarding, Contracts and Demo Questions

On G2 (checked 28 October 2026), reviewers report an average of 1 month to implement Chargeflow and 4 months to ROI, versus 2 months and 10 months for Kount. Chargeflow Alerts go live within 24 hours, with no setup fee or long-term contract. If you are evaluating Kount, ask these questions in the demo:

  1. What will I pay per screened transaction, and is there a monthly minimum or a multi-year term for Kount 360?
  2. Does the Chargeback Guarantee cover item-not-received and not-as-described disputes, or only fraud reason codes?
  3. Which filed chargebacks will you contest, who prepares and submits evidence, and which tasks remain with our team?
  4. Which alert programs are included (Order Insight, RDR, CDRN, Ethoca), and what is the price per alert?
  5. Can I export my dispute and decision data if I switch?

If you already use Kount for screening, you do not have to rip it out. You can add Chargeflow for recovery and alerts, using the steps in how to switch chargeback providers.

Perguntas frequentes

What are the best Kount alternatives?
Chargeflow is a strong alternative for automated recovery and alerts with published pricing. For broader fraud-platform changes, compare Signifyd, Riskified, Forter, Sift and SEON against the specific Kount modules you use. Use the Kount alternatives guide to build a shortlist, then compare like-for-like quotes.

How much does Kount cost?
Kount does not publish prices. Its pricing page offers a custom quote and says cost depends on business goals and transaction volume, among other factors. G2 lists no free plan or trial. By contrast, Chargeflow publishes its rates: 25% of recovered chargebacks, $29 per deflected alert and $0.10 per scanned transaction.

Is Kount owned by Equifax?
Yes. Equifax announced a $640 million agreement to acquire Kount in January 2021, and Kount now operates as an Equifax company. As of 28 October 2026, kount.com redirects to Equifax's Identity and Fraud page, while Kount's pricing and demo pages remain on go.kount.com.

Is Kount a chargeback management company?
Yes. Alongside payment fraud and identity products, Kount 360 offers Chargeback Management, including prevention alerts, reporting and Chargeback Recovery. Former Midigator customers are moving into this platform. Compare the exact recovery service, required merchant work and quoted fees with Chargeflow Automation.

Does Kount offer a chargeback guarantee?
Yes. Kount promotes a Chargeback Guarantee and chargeback insurance, the latter described as 100% coverage of eligible fraud-related chargebacks. It does not publish prices or eligibility rules. Before you sign, ask whether item-not-received and not-as-described disputes, the common friendly fraud claims, are covered.

Chargeflow vs Kount: which is better?
Chargeflow is a strong fit for ecommerce and SaaS teams that want automated dispute operations with published recovery and alert pricing. Kount also offers screening and chargeback management. Compare supported integrations, evidence ownership, product scope and total cost on the same cases; neither a review score nor a vendor-wide claim proves a better outcome for your account.

Can I use Kount and Chargeflow together?
Yes, where the integrations and commercial terms support it. You can retain Kount screening and use Chargeflow for agreed recovery or alert workflows. Assign each dispute to one responder and coordinate descriptor enrollment before changing alert providers. Chargeflow’s duplicate-charge policy does not cancel another vendor’s separate bill.

Which Platform Fits Your Business
