TL;DR:
To your store, it's an ordinary order with an approved card. To Prevent, it's a buyer with a history.
A $72 order came into a Shopify store. One email, one shipping address, an approved card. To the store, it was a normal sale.
Prevent saw what the store couldn't: three cards and five linked identifiers behind that one email. It flagged the order for a closer look while it was still on the shelf.
Before an order ships, Prevent checks the buyer's history across the Chargeflow network.
What Prevent sees that your store can't
To your store, every first-time buyer is a stranger. Many of them aren't strangers to Chargeflow Network Intelligence, which holds dispute outcomes from 20,000+ merchants. So when an order comes in, Prevent can see:
- how often this buyer disputes across the network,
- how soon after buying they usually file,
- how often their orders end in a refund,
- and how many cards and emails are linked to them.

How do you stop fraudulent orders on Shopify?
Scan every paid order before it ships. Keep Shopify's fraud analysis on: it rates online card orders at checkout, and it's a strong first layer. If it marks an order "high risk of fraud detected", check the indicators before you ship. Then add a second layer that checks the buyer's dispute history, and block buyers who have already filed chargebacks against your store.
What is Chargeflow Prevent?
Prevent is Chargeflow's fraud scanning for Shopify stores. It checks every paid order in the window between checkout and fulfillment, and asks one question: is this order likely to end in a dispute?
Your buyers see no change. They check out as usual, and Prevent does its work after the payment is approved and before anything leaves your shelf. Since October 20, that work runs on Prevent 2.0, a new AI model that catches 10x more fraud and abuse than the previous generation and also scans for stolen cards (the launch post has the details).
What happens when Prevent flags a Shopify order?
Every order gets one of three recommendations:
- Proceed: nothing stands out. The order ships as normal.
- Verify: something is unusual. Take a closer look at the reasons first.
- Cancel: the signs point to fraud. Cancel and refund before it ships.
Out of the box, Prevent lets you know when it flags an order. It also lists the buyers with three or more chargebacks against your own store. Pick the ones to block, and their orders are canceled automatically.

What one stopped order saves
A chargeback feels like a lost sale. Add it up, and it costs far more.

Every chargeback also counts toward your dispute ratio, the share of your orders that end in a dispute, which your payment provider watches closely.
Where Prevent started
Prevent began with friendly fraud, the kind that comes from real customers. Here's what the previous generation, Prevent 1.0, delivered, and how much further Prevent 2.0 goes, each compared with traditional fraud tools:
Why do chargebacks keep arriving after you switch Prevent on?
Disputes from orders placed before you switch Prevent on keep arriving for weeks. Most dashboards count disputes by the date they were filed, so judge Prevent on the orders it actually scanned. For those older disputes, and any chargeback that still gets through, Chargeflow Automation is already in your account.
Start with your next order
If you're new to Prevent, your first 1,000 scanned transactions are free, through December 31, 2026. After that, it's $0.10 per scanned transaction. New to Chargeflow? Install it from the Shopify App Store, then activate Prevent. Already use Chargeflow? Just activate Prevent, and it scans your very next order. Already on Prevent? You're running Prevent 2.0 at the new price, with nothing to switch on.
